There are many scriptures in the Bible that describe what the church is to be and do.
We believe that five statements made by Jesus summarise it all:
The Great Commandment (Matthew 22 : 37 - 39 (NET))
37. Jesus said to him, "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul,
and with all your mind".
38. This is the first and greatest commandment.39. The second is like it: "Love your neighbor as yourself".
The Great Commission (Matthew 28 : 19 & 20 - (NET))
19. Therefor go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father
and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
20. teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you....
The Promise (John 14 : 12 - 14 (NET))
12. I tell you the solemn truth, the person who believes in me will perform the miraculous
deeds that I am doing, and will perform greater deeds than these,because I am going to the Father.
13. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.14. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.
(Mark 16 : 17 & 18 (NET))
17. These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons;
they will speak in new languages;
18. they will pick up snakes with their hands, and whatever poison they drink will not harm them;
they will place their hands on the sick and they will be well.
The Prospect (John 14 : 2 & 3 (NET))
2. There are many dwelling places in my Father’s house. Otherwise, I would have told you,
because I am going away to make ready a place for you.
3. And if I go and make ready a place for you, I will come again and take you to be with me,
so that where I am you may be too.
